Remember Gordon Bombay?
After much careful research, speculation and discussion with other experts, I’ve come to the conclusion that Gordon Bombay from the Mighty Ducks Movies is the greatest fictional athlete ever created in filmography. Not coach, but athlete.
Some Men are Born Great!
Here is a guy who quit hockey after his last peewee game when he missed the last shot in the championship. So he’s probably around 12 or 13 when he quits. Then at the end of the original Mighty Ducks he gets on a bus to go play minor league hockey, gives Charlie’s mom a kiss and he’s gone.
At the start of D2 we find that he is now playing Minor League Hockey and is on the fast track to the NHL until that goon slashes his knee and ends his career.
Maybe 1 or 2 years has passed. So a guy who is in his late 20’s or early 30’s, hasn’t played hockey since 7th or 8th grade, only needs 1 to 2 seasons to become a NHL player? Only a truly elite athlete could accomplish this and I can’t think of another one in the history of cinematography who is better. If you can think of a better one, not counting superheroes, let me know.
Ducks stick together”
